IRIS
The Poignant True Story -- Academy Award(R)-Winner & Golden Globe(R) Award-Winner for Best Supporting Actor Jim Broadbent Stars in a Triple Academy Award(R)-Nominated and Triple Golden Globe(R) Award-Nominated Cast With Judi Dench and Kate Winslet -- Available on DVD and Video on August 20.
For his role in Miramax Films' IRIS, the poignant true story of a woman whose lust for life knew no boundaries, Jim Broadbent has received the Academy Award(R) for Best Performance By An Actor In A Supporting Role, and recently received the Golden Globe Award(R) as well for Best Supporting Actor. Triple Academy Award(R) nominations and triple Golden Globe Award(R) nominations were given to the stellar cast, including Academy Award(R)-winning actress Judi Dench (Oscar(R)-winner "Shakespeare In Love"), Broadbent ("Moulin Rouge," "Bridget Jones's Diary"), and Kate Winslet ("Quills," "Titanic"). IRIS is priced to own at $29.99 (S.R.P.) and also available for home video rental on August 20.
IRIS is the true story of Iris Murdoch, the acclaimed English novelist and philosopher and her life with novelist John Bayley. Directed by Richard Eyre from a screenplay by Richard Eyre and Charles Wood, the story is based on two of John Bayley's novels ("Elegy for Iris" & "Iris and Her Friends") about their life together, and focuses on Iris' lust for life and for words. In their older years it becomes clear that Iris is suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. For a novelist, this is the worst condition to have as she slowly loses her thought process and ability to communicate with the outside world. But Iris' spirit knew no bounds and her story is told thoughtfully and provocatively through her husband's eyes.
The DVD is presented in widescreen (1.85:1 aspect ratio) enhanced for 16X9 televisions, includes a French Language Track and a Behind-The-Scenes Featurette -- "A Look at Iris." Additional bonus materials are TBA. IRIS is rated "R" For Sexuality/Nudity and Some Language by the Motion Picture Association of America and has a running time of approximately 90 minutes.
