Kate Winslet in an undated promotional pic for Iris. |
Introduction
Two of the most acclaimed actresses of our time, Judi Dench and Kate Winslet,
bring to the screen one of the most extraordinary women of hers, celebrated author,
Iris Murdoch. From her days as a brilliant scholar at Oxford, where she thrilled the
world around her with her libertine spirit, through her career as a philosopher and
novelist, Iris was truly ahead of her time. And through it all, one man stood beside
her every step of the way - John Bayley, her unlikely soulmate, who through good
times and bad, would love her all her life.

Interviews with the Cast
The following are quotes from interviews with Kate Winslet, and Judi Dench about Iris. These appear to have taken place on the set of Iris after completing the shoot. They are part of the Iris press kit shared with Discover Kate by Miramax Films. If you would like to read them all of the interview excerpts click here.
Kate Winslet (Young Iris)
"I feel really lucky to have played this part because Iris was such an interesting character. Its role in which I very much had to be on the ball. The one thing that people have said about her across the board is that she just had the most incredibly free spirit. A real liver of life."
Judi Dench (Iris Murdoch)
"I think the relationship between John and Iris is really amazing. I do really think of this film as a love story. The two of them were curiously put together in a kind of wonderful miracle."
