Master film-maker Peter Jackson adapted Heavenly Creatures based on the true story of two young girls. They become wrapped up in their love for one another, that they seemingly forget the real world. Adapted from Pauline's diary, the film weaves a tale of chilling suspense, and even leads to murder. Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey make their sreen debuts as Juliet Hulme and Pauline Parker respectively. The film, set in a 1950's New Zealand is authentic almost to a pain. It even appears to have been filmed in the 1950's with the yellow-ish cinematography.
Personal Thoughts: Heavenly Creatures is a high spirited flick, best viewed by girlfriends together. It contains lots of fun glimpses of Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey. The girls are undaunted by life and so the film is loved by many teens. It is easy to watch when it is forgotten that the tale is based on a true story. A little word of warning, you may want to cover your eyes and mute the sound once you see the girls heading down the hill for a little walk with "Mother".
Trivia Kate Winlset and Melanie Lynskey hit it off so well during filming that they became the two girls. This caused a lot of stress for both of the brand new film stars, and upon arriving home, Ms. Winslet left again to go to Paris to regain herself. The New Zealand version of the film, where it actually takes place, has several scenes that were not included in any other release of the film.
Collectibles The Script - This is the entire script, including scenes cut from the versions released outside of New Zealand. It also has press info at the bottom, the cast, and an interview with Peter Jackson. I do not know whom to give credit for the html document.
