The movie’s the thing, not the review Kate Winslet is no narcissistic prima donna. She doesn’t read her own clippings, let alone believe them. If she did pay attention to them, she says, she just couldn’t concentrate on doing her job.

Kate Winslet “Holidays” in America Blonde Kate is one beautiful girl. Her flawless English rose complexion and those big, expressive eyes just grab you when you meet her in person. We met with the actress, who looked sleek in all black low-cut tee, jacket, jeans and high boots, at a hotel in Beverly Hills recently to sit down and shoot the breeze about shooting The Holiday, her joy at playing a modern Englishwoman without corsets and period costumes, being a mom, her Oscar hopes, working with Jack Black as her leading man and what she’d like to give and get this holiday season.

Winslet weeps and moans without sacrificing her radiance or aud’s sympathy, while the marginally less teary-eyed Law effortlessly piles on the charm in a role that will have some amusing resonances for tabloid readers.

Screen Daily: Queen of saccharine returns Her prose is made to look more substantial, however, by an appealing troupe of actors. In her first contemporary English role, Kate Winslet is enormously disarming as a young woman tormented by her unrequited love; Jude Law has never been this engaging as her brother Graham, showing comic skill and buckets of charm.
Did Kate Outshine Cam? Poor Jude Law didn’t know who to hug out of his two leading ladies, so he went for both.
