Holy Smokin'
Holy Smoke is all the buzz in the Kate Winslet world at the moment. This film is bringing a lot of attention to our young star. The reviews are coming in from the world premiere of the film both in Venice and New York. "Whatever the final verdict on the film itself, one thing is already clear: Winslet's performance is the best on screen from a woman this year." (Garth Pearce) "In a word, she is elemental." (The Evening Standard) "Ms. Winslet is stunning in this role." (New York Times) The film is being released by Miramax. They are doing a Los Angeles release on November 30th and a New York release on December 3rd to qualify it for the Academy Awards for 1999. While the executives at Mirmax seem to be sitting on their haunches, not doing a thing, there's a lot of "word-of-mouth" adverising going on for the film. Including a recent welcome addition to the internet, the completed Official French Site. The site has been completed for the November 24th France release of Holy Smoke (Note: When we first saw this site it said October 27th for a release, even their date was pushed back!).
