Kate Winslet talks to Pro7 (German Television)

Steven Gaetjen: Iīm standing here with another nominee, it is Kate Winslet. Kate, very nice to meet you, this is your rose (gives her a rose)

Kate Winslet: Oh, thank you. Are you doing this to all the girls tonight?

Steven: No, just you tonight…

Kate: (interrupting) Yes you are!

Steven: No, I bought a whole bunch of flowers and I wanted to give them all to you, but I figured that you wouldnīt be able to take them in.

Kate: You were looking that it matches my dress…

Steven: It does, thatīs why I bought them.

Kate: So you did quite well there, didnīt you? (both are smiling)

Steven: Yes, it matches: the carpet, the dress and the rose all together. How does it feel tonight? Your third nomination. Are you nervous, I mean, do you get nervous?

Kate: Yes, you do get nervous, how can you not get nervous?! I mean, itīs the Academy Award, itīll be impossible to not get nervous, you know. So Iīm just excited and nervous and thrilled to be here and I actually feel relatively calm though in comparison to previous years. And I think this is just simply because I do know what to expect and I have been before, and itīs just so nice to be english and to be nominated for a little british film, you know. It just makes all the difference, you know. It makes me feel a lot more honoured to be here I think.

Steven: The Academy thinks differently, because she has nominated Jim Broadbent and also Dame Judi Dench for the movie. So, how did you prepare for the movie, did you actually have a lot of time that you spend together with Judi Dench to prepare as playing the young Iris and sheīs playing the old Iris?

Kate: Well actually no, we didnīt have that much time together and itīs bizarre, because the two of us… I remember when we saw the movie for the first time, and we were just so thrilled that actually we sort of felt like the same person, purely because we havenīt had that time to sit down together. And I think we must have just taken a lot of the same stuff from the research that we were doing, and that was how we managed to hopefully create an accurate portrait of Dame Iris Murdoch.

Steven: Youīve had a great music success with you single “What if” (Kate starts grining). So, are you gonna be persuing a musical career in the future or are gonna go back to acting or are you gonna do both?

Kate: No, no, no, and can I just say about that, and this is something not many people knew: that was actually a charity single, and all the proceeds went to two charities, two childrens charities of my choice. And that was the only reason why I did it (laughing), because I wanted to help these two charities that I feel very strongly about. But nevertheless: it was great that it was a success, and, you know, this is not me trying to be a popstar, you know. It was an one-off-thing and Iīm just thrilled that it did very well.

Steven: So you are not gonna record an album?

Kate: (grining) No.

Steven: So, whatīs coming up next, Titanic 2 anything? (grining)

Kate: (grining as well) Not Titanic 2, because it did sink (putting her finger down as a gesture of Titanic sinking). So I donīt think so. But right now Iīm just being a mum, just loving that and just having some time with my daughter.

Kate talks to Chris from ABC

Chris: I'm here with Kate Winslet. So honored for her role as the young Iris Murdoch. You've had the perfect post-blockbuster career. How have you done it?

Kate: Man don't know. I think I've just really tried to continue to stick to my moral really, and read good scripts and appreciate the directors that are involved with those things. I've just been really lucky to have that choice.

Chris: You said you wanted a pair of shoes that wouldn't kill you and a dress that's half decent. The aesthetics are awesome. How is the comfort level?

Kate: It's actually pretty good. I wouldn't like to attempt to pee in this dress. But it is pretty good.
