Who will win?

Reel.com

Winslet, one of our most daring and accomplished actresses, demonstrates Iris Murdoch's radiant intelligence and sets the stage for the tragedy that will befall the author when Alzheimer's sets in.

For Her: She makes an indelible impression in only 30 minutes or so of screen time.

Against Her: Iris is pretty far down on the Academy's radar screen.

She Said. (Quotes from Ms. Winslet on the Evening)

“This was my first choice. I wanted to wear something elegant and comfortable, and I’m certainly comfortable. As for elegant, you have to tell me.”

"A cranberry carpet - and I'm in a red dress!"

"The comfort level is actually pretty good, but I wouldn't like to try to pee at the moment."

"This is the third time I've been nominated and it would be a shame to break a habit if I won."

"I'm running on adrenaline - I'm too nervous to eat."
