Kate Winslet was presented her Best British Actress award by actor Tim Roth on Tuesday evening, February 5, 2002 in London's Dorchester Hotel. In accepting her award Kate thanked a special someone: "I want to thank my baby Mia for making me look so fantastically frumpy because I was five months pregnant at the time."
Kate's Acceptance Speech (from Empire Online)
I firstly wanted to say, 'Nice one, Orly' because you were brilliant in that film [LOTR]. And secondly I want to say I'm slightly embarassed, because being in a category like that, well done everyone for being nominated. I must thank Dougray Scott for letting me boss him around as much as I did while we were making [Enigma] and everyone involved. Michael Apted was such a fantastic director and all the actors were great, Mick Jagger because he's Mick Jagger and he was fabulous too. And I want to thank my daughter Mia for making me as fantastically frumpy as I was in Enigma because I was five months pregnant when I did it. And the readers of Empire - thank you!
