WOMAD FOR IT – The last weekend in July this year saw Kate, Jim, baby Mia and friends turn up at the Womad festival at Rivermead to watch her dad Roger, lead singer of the band Bidgie Reef and the Gas

1997 – Kate meets Jim Threapleton, an assistant movie director three years her senior and from Yorkshire, on the set of Hideous Kinky in Marrakesh. She said she “fell in love at first sight” with a “glorious-looking boy”. Jim joined Kate and her parents to the Academy Awards presentations in Hollywood. Rumours about the couple’s relationship filled the drama world until she admitted “He’s cool and I love him. That’s it.”

DECEMBER 1997 – Kate’s ex-boyfriend Stephen Tedre, an EastEnders scriptwriter, dies from cancer.

October 1998 – The couple make their first public appearance at the Oscars, where Kate was up for Best Actress for her role in Titanic.

November 1998 – Kate and Jim marry at All Saints Church in Downshire Square, west Reading. The Reverend Henry Everett, who led the ceremony, had christened Kate years earlier.

February 1999 – The movie star announces she is pregnant and poses for photographs at a London premiere.

October 2000 – Kate gives birth to her first child, Mia.

July 2001 – The couple, along with baby Mia and more than a dozen family members, enjoy Reading’s Womad festival. Kate and Jim are seen laughing and joking with their daughter.

August 2001 – Kate admitted there were “highs and lows” in her marriage during an interview for a magazine. The couple who have homes in Walton-on-Thames in Surrey, North London and Cornwall plan to buy a fourth home in Tintagel. Their Walton home is rumoured to be on the market.

September 4 2001 – Kate Winslet’s spokesman announces that the couple are to split. It is rumoured that the separation follows weeks of arguments.

This month she is also due to meet the Prince of Wales at the premiere of her new wartime film Enigma, produced by Rolling Stone Mick Jagger.
