Winslet Splits With Husband

A subdued and red-eyed Kate Winslet has spoken of her sadness at the break-up of her marriage to director Jim Threapleton.

The actress was not wearing her wedding ring when she emerged from the London flat where she has been staying with her baby daughter for several weeks.

"This is an absolutely amicable separation and it is a mutual decision between both of us", she said of the end of her three-year marriage.

'No malice'

"Jim and I have great respect for each other. There is no malice at all. It is extremely sad but we are all fine."

Kate, 26 next month, has moved back into her bachelor pad in Islington with baby Mia, who is less than a year old. Her sister is also staying with her.

She said she and Jim, 27, were "communicating constantly", adding: "Mia remains the happy child that she has always been." She asked the media to respect the family's privacy before going back into her flat.

Later, Kate left the flat with Mia, climbing into the back seat of a 4x4 car with her and kissing her on the head as they drove through a crowd of paparazzi.
