GLAMOUR Magazine Names the 'Women of the Year' for 2004

NEW YORK, Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- GLAMOUR magazine's Editor-in-Chief
Cindi Leive and Vice President and Publisher Bill Wackermann announced
today the 15th Annual GLAMOUR Women of the Year winners and celebrity
presenters. The 15th Annual GLAMOUR Women of the Year Awards,
sponsored by L'Oreal Paris, honor extraordinary and inspirational
women from a variety of fields, including entertainment, business,
sports, music, science/medicine, education and politics.
The awards will take place this evening, Monday, November 8, 2004 at
the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, and for the
first time will be broadcast on TV in syndication around the country,
starting on November 13, 2004. The one-hour TV special, hosted by
Sarah Michelle Gellar, will include original and intimate interviews

The GLAMOUR 2004 Women of the Year honorees and presenters are:
THE CLASS ACT
Kate Winslet - (presenter Susan Sarandon) this extraordinarily
talented actress has combined quirky roles with Oscar nominated
performances all the while refusing to conform to Hollywood's beauty
standards. Only 29 years old, she is a mother of two and in the prime
of her acting career.
THE REAL DEAL
Alicia Keys - (presenter Natalie Cole) the remarkable artist who was a
five-time Grammy winner by 21. Keys was Valedictorian of her high
school class at 16, and a piano-playing prodigy by seven.
THE CRUSADERS
EIF's Women's Cancer Research Fund - (presenter Pierce Brosnan who is
also the Campaign Chair for EIF's annual fundraiser) the crusaders
comprised of Hollywood's movers and shakers have raised over $25
million to fight cancer as well as campaigning tirelessly to raise
cancer awareness and get research funded now. Rita Wilson, Kate
Capshaw, Anne Douglas, Jamie Tisch, Marion Laurie, Kelly Chapman Meyer
and Quinn Ezralow co founded and chair the group.
THE MORNING GLORY
Kelly Ripa - (presenter Sarah Michelle Gellar who is also hosting the
one- hour TV special) the amazing star of an ABC sitcom, Regis &
Kelly, and mother of three is also a national celebrity spokesperson
for Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Ripa never chose between being a
mother and having a career, she proved she can do it all.
THE CHAMP
Carly Patterson - (presenter Katie Couric) the Olympian at only 16 was
the second person in history to bring home the gold for the US in
women's all around individual gymnastics.
THE MOGUL
Judy McGrath - (presenter Jon Stewart) the MTV mogul that is
responsible for programming that reaches 400 million viewers in 164
countries and 18 languages and over 100 channels. She is the most
powerful CEO in cable, having climbed from copywriter to chairman and
CEO of MTV Networks.
THE FASHION FORCE
Carolina Herrera - (presenter Katie Holmes) the fashion force who's
23- year career in fashion has resulted in a $400 million-plus global
empire. One of the few female designers to run her own line, Herrera
is even more driven than ever.
THE TRUTH SEEKERS
9/11 Widows, aka Jersey Girls - [presenter Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.)]
these truth seekers from New Jersey who lost their husbands in the
World Trade Center attacks can be credited with getting the 9-11
commission started. Lorie Van Auken, Patty Casazza, Mindy Kleinberg
and Lori Van Auken continue their efforts to see that the commission's
recommendations are implemented.
THE AUTHOR-ACTIVIST
Judy Blume - (presenter Ethan Hawke) the author, and activist who is a
hero to most women is also one of the most-banned writers in America.
She received the National Book Foundation's highest honor and her
books have topped the bestseller lists for the past 34 years.
THE ANTI-POVERTY HERO
Alice Coles - (presenter Myrlie Evers-Williams) the antipoverty hero
who single-handedly changed a dilapidated village of tar-paper shacks
with no plumbing to a community with 36 new homes, a water-sewage
plant, sidewalks and gardens. A single mother of two, Coles,
co-founded Bayview Citizens for Social Justice and has raised $10
million to rebuild her forgotten community.
GLAMOUR'S LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD PRESENTED TO:
THE NEWSHOUND
Helen Thomas - (presenter Sam Donaldson) the newshound that has been
feared and revered by the nine presidents she has covered. Thomas
became the first female president of the White House Correspondents'
Association and never took "no women allowed" for an answer.
GLAMOUR'S SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO SOLDIERS:
In 2004, 14 American servicewomen lost their lives in Iraq. Their
letters before dying are funny, sad and heartbreakingly ordinary.
Portions of those letters will be read by actresses: Jessica Capshaw,
Anne Hathaway, Keri Russel, Aisha Tyler and Kerry Washington as a
tribute to those lost their lives.
Also at the awards, there will be a special musical performance by Alicia Keys.
