The 100 Best Performances That Oscar Snubbed
November 29, 2002
#76 - Kate Winslet
Heavenly Creatures (1994 Miramax)
With porcelain skin, bee-stung lips, and strawberry-blond locks, the angel-faced Winslet alighted in film with the devil inside her in Peter Jackson's thriller about two teens whose hyperactive imaginations lead to matricide. Her vivacious Juliet, a lonely child, envelops the sulken Pauline (Melanie Lynskey) and gusts from elation to hysteria. Winslet's perfect storm makes it easier to see how these headstrong girls got so tragically carried away.
