Who would you think would be Britain's most wanted party guest? Whoever, we're betting you didn't guess Diana's little brother, Earl Spencer, and his wife Caroline (aka 'Pidge').

According to the latest issue of Tatler, society magazine supreme, the pair are a surprise new entry at No.1, after receiving more invitations this year than any other person or husband-wife team.

Just as shocking is the news that last season's most professional partygoer, Victoria Hervey, has slipped a humiliating 94 places to No.100, the last place on the list and well below her charming younger sister, student Isabella, who is another new entry at No.34 this year.

Astonishingly, most of the highest spots are populated by members of the British aristocracy most of us wouldn't recognise even on paper, with Hugh Grant (13), Nigella Lawson (23), Kate Winslet (24), Gwyneth Paltrow (25), and Camilla Parker Bowles (28) being the only truly household names making it into the Top 30 (with poor TPT relegated to No.31). This leaves the likes of Mick Jagger, Sir Elton John, Madonna, Tom Ford, Rupert Everett, Claudia Schiffer – in other words, most normal people's fantasy party guests - flailing in the lower ranks of the league, at Nos.36, 41, 46, 61, 72 and 93 respectively. Also of note is the fact that Kate Moss, now shackled to fiancé Jefferson Hack, has seen her own popularity rating plummet to No.79.
