THE strain shows on Kate Winslet's face as she hands baby Mia over to ex-hubby Jim Threapleton.

Despite claims that the couple's split was amicable, film director Jim wasn't invited in yesterday as he turned up to Kate's house in Holloway, north London, to take 17-month-old Mia for access.

Jim, 27, waited outside in the cold as his daughter was brought to him.

But it wasn't all long faces. Jim was later seen laughing and joking - probably to ease the tension.

The couple divorced in December after a much- publicised separation three months earlier.

Their split shocked many in the showbiz world who had regarded their three-year marriage as one of the most stable in the industry.

Titanic and Iris star Kate, 27, is now seeing 37-year-old film and theatre producer Sam Mendes and says she is very happy in the relationship.

She has repeatedly claimed it didn't start until long after she broke up with her husband.
