The Knot Spots the Top Five Wedding Gown Trends for Fall
July 31, 2001

NEW YORK (BUSINESS WIRE FEATURES) - What will brides be wearing next year? According to editors of The Knot Wedding Gowns magazine, the wedding fashion bible from the nation's leading wedding resource The Knot, brides will be making statements by wearing sexy body-hugging corsets, giving up traditional white for eye-catching colors, and sporting unorthodox accents like feathers and fur. The Knot reveals all the details in the Fall/Winter 2001 issue of The Knot Wedding Gowns magazine, which the hits newsstands nationwide this August, and online at the No.1 wedding website (www.theknot.com; AOL keyword: weddings).

"Today's brides are more daring. For some, that means expressing their sexiness; for others, that means wearing something bold or unique," says Carley Roney, today's cutting-edge wedding expert and editor in chief of The Knot. "Bridal designers are responding with a wide range of fashion-forward designs that allow a bride's individual personality to shine through on her big day."

Here is a sneak peak at the top five trends that will appear in The Knot Wedding Gowns Bridal Fashion Week Runway Report:

1. CURVY BODIES IN CORSETS

Call it courtesan chic or Moulin Rouge mania -- the corset is all the rage in wedding wear! After seasons of long, lean lines, the voluptuous bridal body has made a comeback (thanks to recently-wed starlets like Kate Winslet and Catherine Zeta Jones). Designers' updates on this turn-of-the century style boast boned bodices, laced-up backs, and an overall emphasis on the decolletage.

2. EYE-CATCHING COLOR

More and more brides are looking for an alternative to traditional wedding whites. Brides next year will be wearing gowns in shades of pink, gold, blue and, for the especially daring, black! For those seeking just a splash of color, designers such as Amsale and Peter Langner have obliged with colorful flowing sashes and floral overlays against classic white gowns.

3. LACE SHOWING MORE THAN GRACE

Looking to the past but inspired by the future, lace makes a strong comeback as you've never seen it before. Undeniably sexy, the new lace is combined with plunging necklines, mini hemlines, and sleek silhouettes from designers like Monique Lhuillier, Reem Acra, and Erisa Katsura.

4. DARE-TO-BE-DIFFERENT DETAILS LIKE FEATHERS

Believe it or not, the new couture accent of the season is feathers. Brides will be exhibiting their sophistication (and spunk) with fluffy tufts at the neckline, wing-like wraps, and dancing trims along skirts from fashion-forward designers such as Badgley Mischka, Manale, and Max Chaoul.

5. DEMURE AND DARING IN ONE DRESS

For brides looking for something "demure" for the ceremony and more "sexpot" for the reception, many of today's designers are offering dresses with convertibility. Clever cover-ups, sophisticated coats, and even detachable skirts and sleeves over slinkier wedding gown designs allow brides to express multiple facets of their personalities throughout their wedding days.
