LONDON (Reuters) - Actress Kate Winslet has bought a haunted house in Cornwall, the Sunday Express tabloid reported.

The paper said Winslet bought an idyllic cliff-top home in Tintagel, Cornwall, which locals claim is haunted.

A spectre has been sighted several times gliding from the three-bedroom cottage across the ground to a nearby castle, the paper said.

Tintagel is bound up in the legend of King Arthur with many people convinced the ruined Tintagel castle was once the seat of Camelot.

"We are used to spooky happening and I bet Miss Winslet is the type of person who wouldn't bat an eyelid at such things," an unnamed local woman was quoted as saying.

Winslet, who is best known for her starring role in the Hollywood blockbuster "Titanic", has a baby daughter Mia with her husband Jim Threapleton.

She has recently completed filming "Iris", in which she played the author Iris Murdoch.
