Winslet is swamped by Thames
November 10, 2000
As if being soaked time and time again in blockbuster movie Titanic was not enough for Kate Winslet her home has now been flooded.
Winslet's now waterlogged home sits on a small island in the middle of the swelling river Thames.
The 25-year-old actress has reportedly been using sandbags in a vain attempt to stop the floodwaters from soaking her love-nest with husband Jim Threapleton.
The pair live in their remote home with their three month-old baby girl, but according to a newspaper report they may have to make a swift exit.
Twenty-six year-old Threapleton told reporters, "If it gets any worse, we will have to think about evacuating. We are just keeping our fingers crossed."
Luckily the forecast is relatively good, although the pair may well be cut off for some time as the only road to their house is underwater.
Kate and Jim are not the only celebrities to have been affected by the torrential rain and flooding that has swept the country.
Australian star Rolf Harris will have found the encroaching waters a little different from his homeland. His Thames-side property, complete with palms and garden furniture, is partially submerged by the rust-coloured waters.
Chat show host Michael Parkinson's rather grander residence a few doors away is also being threatened by the river, which has covered all of his garden and is lapping against the doorstep. He and his wife have evacuated their home temporarily.
Boyzone star Ronan Keating's home has also been affected.
