Kate wins Empire Award.

Kate flew the flag for the British contribution to global hit Titanic when she picked up two awards for the film in London. She was named Best British Actress at the Empire Magazine Film Awards and Titanic was Best Film in the awards, voted by readers. Picking up her award, she said: "I am not going to extend thanks to lots and lots of people, because the Americans have already had all their praise. "I want to thank all the British film crew - the make-up, hair, and stunt team - who were all entirely British. I want to share this award with those guys." Later she returned to the stage to accept the Best Overall Film award for Titanic, which won 10 Oscars, from director Joel Schumacher. "The boat film does it again," she said. "If director James Cameron was here, I don't know what he'd say, so I will pop this in the post and he can put it with all his other awards."
